A new Finnish escape

Industry, kept honest.

Koski Royale Casino Hotel is a fictional destination built inside a red-brick riverside mill that ran on the rapids for over a century before the machines went quiet. Nothing has been prettified. Cast-iron columns, painted steel windows, riveted beams and worn timber floors are exactly where the millwrights left them, and the casino hotel was fitted around them rather than over them.

Take coffee in the old canteen. Walk the tailrace channel where the water still runs hard. Then push through the steel door into our adults-only casino salon under the brick vaults of the ground floor. Everything in this casino hotel was made to work, and it still does—just at something other than what it was built for.

Ruokala Restaurant

The canteen, done properly.

Our signature restaurant occupies the original workers' canteen and keeps its spirit—long shared tables, tin lampshades, a hot dish of the day and no fuss whatsoever. Karelian stew, river fish, root vegetables, dark rye and a soup that changes with the weather. The coffee is strong, the portions are honest, and the room opens straight onto the casino hotel stair.
